Hi! I’m Shan.

I enjoy transforming complex human feelings and behaviors into concrete solutions for users to not only get to where they want to go, but also enjoy the ride along the way.

Understanding someone – their fears and frustrations, motivations and quiet moments –  provides the opportunity to predict and influence behaviors. I purposely challenge assumptions by recognizing that users are the masters of their own domains, be it in the choices they make or the environments they occupy. Digging deeper into what it means to be human in relation to technology can reveal some hard data and big profits if done with a little humility, tact, and tempered skill.

Throughout a career that spans across criminal justice, child welfare, and academic fields, I have found empathy at the heart of my work. I thrive on helping people make sense of their worlds, which allows me do what I love – empowering users by and through design. Why it took me so long to get into UX is still a mystery to me, but I am sure glad I did.

When I’m not dreaming up ways to conduct research to inform my designs, I can be found buying my dog hats she doesn’t need and debating the best PopTart flavor (spoiler alert: it’s “S’mores”).

Let’s start a conversation, I’d love to get to know you!
